Supported scales

CarbScale works with almost any Bluetooth Low Energy food scale. If yours is on this list, setup takes about 5 seconds.

Don't see yours? It probably still works.

Any other Bluetooth Low Energy food/nutrition scale should work too, after about 3 minutes of calibration. Not sure whether yours is Bluetooth? If it has its own phone app, it almost certainly is.

Scale won't work? Tell me and I'll try to add it.

How to set up

A verified scale (about 5 seconds)

Open the scale screen, add your Bluetooth scale, let it autodetect, test it, and you're done.

Any other scale (about 3 minutes)

Skip autodetect and calibrate the scale instead. Then it works just like a verified one.

Sideloading is a way to install Android apps without having to go through the Google Play store.

Why sideload?

You own it. Apps on a store can be pulled, enshittified by updates or (most annoyingly) start requiring a subscription. The APK you download stays exactly as it is, and keeps working even if the app disappears from the store.

Privacy. When you install from Google Play, the app gets associated to your account and the data ends up...who knows where? An APK doesn't go through your Google/Apple account, so there's no install record tied to you.

How to install:

  1. On your phone, tap: Download APK
  2. Tap Download. Chrome's Choose where to download dialog, with a Download button
  3. When it finishes, tap Open. If you miss it, open Chrome's ⋮ menu, tap Downloads, then tap the file. Chrome's File downloaded message, with an Open button
  4. If you've never installed an APK from Chrome, you'll be asked for permission. Tap Settings. The Permission required dialog, with a Settings button
  5. Turn on Allow from this source. You'll go straight to the next step. The Install unknown apps screen for Chrome, with the Allow from this source switch
  6. Tap Install. The Install this app dialog, with an Install button
  7. Tap Open. You're now up and running! The App installed dialog, with an Open button

These screens are from Chrome on Android 17, so yours may look a little different.
